What causes knots in wood and how to deal with them

When using wood for any construction project knots are all too common.  A knot is a defect in a piece of wood caused by the presence of a branch.  When grading lumber, boards are classified by their size, form, soundness, and the firmness. Knots are not only unattractive looking they also can weaken the board strength and often act as the starting points for cracking. Higher grades of lumber will have fewer and smaller knots.  Titan Fence offers primarily higher grades of lumber specific to each job requirement.  If any piece of wood has too many defects they are cut out of boards and thrown on a scrap heap.

The largest knots are found on some of the least expensive, lowest grade types of wood available. Dealing with knots can add extra work to a project.  No special equipment is required, just a keen, experienced eye that knows what to look for.  When dealing with any fence project our expert designers and installers are trained on how to deal with knots and regularly weed through boards to ensure our fences are built with high quality standards and workmanship.   A Titan Fence specialist can work with you regarding which type of wood will best suite your needs and design a fencing solution for your home or office and provide the quality you are looking for.
